With heavy hearts the family of Kathleen (Shunamon) Coates announce her passing on October 20th at Northwood Manor. Grieving her loss are her son Glen (Alberta), brother Michael, (Canning), sisters Pauline (Sackville) Josephine (Hugh Burns) East Uniacke, Karen (Barry Miller) Bible Hill and Sherry (Grant MacDonald) Beaver Bank, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kathleen was the daughter of the late Edith and Edward Shunamon. She was predeceased by her daughters, Tammy and Bonnie, as well as sisters Maxine, Judy, Colleen and brothers Owen, Danny and Ross. Kathleen was proud to be a retired employee of Farmers Dairy.

She will forever be remembered for her kindness and trusting, generous spirit often giving of herself to help anyone who needed anything, whether it be mittens to warm a child’s hands while travelling on Halifax Transit buses, or sharing treats with her family and friends, never asking for anything more than a warm smile and a hug… Kathleen loved hugs! And she loved treats! And roadtrips! She was a fabulous knitter and so many people treasure her beautiful socks, mittens, hats, sweaters, and afghans. She was in her happy place when in her garden or while casting a line with her little pink fishing rod… got super excited at every catch.

Family was everything to Kathleen and we take comfort in knowing she is now among her many angels about whom she talked so frequently, especially her daughters, sisters, and our Mother. Her past several years saw Kathleen meet many health challenges but she never lost her hope or spirit.

Special thanks to Dr. Adrienne Weeks for her unfailing care, guidance and compassion during Kathleen’s surgeries and to the wonderful staff at Northwood Manor. Kathleen showed amazing strength right to the end and we pray she now will fly as free as the butterflies and eagles that she loved so much.

A Celebration of Life for Kathleen will take place at Acadia Hall in Lower Sackville on Sunday, October 29th, 2023, beginning at 2:30 PM.
